The Shaviram Group took on an office block in Beckenham with the view to reconfiguring the structure into 125 residential apartments. DRG was commissioned as the main contractor and started work in November 2021.

The DRG solution

The existing building consists of 3 wings, set out in a T-shape. The East and West wings front onto the A234 (Beckenham Road), forming the top bar of the ‘T’, and are arranged over ground and 4 upper floors. The North wing is set over the lower ground, ground floor and 5 upper floors. There is car parking at ground level and in an undercroft, set over 2 floors.

As the buildings are greater than 18 metres tall, they required new aluminium glazing on all elevations to replace the existing UPVC windows. Some also had Juliet balconies added, along with rendered panels to soften the external appearance. The exposed frame (concrete columns and beams) on the elevations were decorated and repaired as necessary.


Internally, following strip-out and structural work, partition walls and new doors were installed throughout to create the individual apartments. Each apartment was completed to turnkey standard, with high-specification kitchens and bathrooms and performance flooring throughout.

The result

Registry Heights is now home to 93 one bedroom and 32 two-bedroom apartments, and has been equipped to a high standard. In line with our carbon offsetting partnership with Ecologi, the project led to the planting of 132 trees.
